TALL BUILDINGS EVENT - 27 NOV 09
A successful Tall Buildings Event took place on Friday the 27th of November at the BT Tower, London. The principle speakers were Jean Hewitt and Stephen Robinson. The thirty five delegates heard Jean, who is an authority on disabled access, speak on disabled evacuation. A presentation centred on the challenges of disabled access and securing effective management procedures for mobility impared persons.
Stephen Robinson, a senior officer from the London Fire Brigade's Fire Engineering Team, spoke on the application of the RRO, with specific reference to office environments. Feedback from recent court determinations, made under the order, led to further discussion. Presentations by the FSC were well received with discussions on fire risk assessments, fire safety management and the construction of fire safety manuals. Finally, there was a short notice presentation by Patrick Flynn who, on the previous day, had initiated a complete evacuation drill of the HSBC Building and the lessons learned. The response from delegates to this event was very encouraging with several offering to host future tall building events.
